remote controller, lighting system, method for assigning an identity to a light source in a coded light illumination system and method for operating a coded light illumination system has been proposed to enable advanced control of light sources and transmit information with the use of light sources. it relies on invisibly embedding data and identifiers in its light output. Methods, devices and systems configured for efficient address assignment in a coded lighting system, while still allowing unique identification, are proposed. More specifically, address assignment occurs in two phases, where unique addresses from a wide area of the early phase are used, while in the second phase only unique addresses from a local area are used. In addition, methods, devices, and systems configured to efficiently distribute a set of addresses to a set of light sources in this second phase to maximize the performance of estimation and placement of lighting contribution are disclosed.
