Pancreatic stem cells and pancreatic cells

Fresh human pancreatic tissue can be used as a source of cells to identify and select a non-stem cell population that can become a source of pancreatic surrogate cells that can be used to treat insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus. The progenitor cells of these surrogate pancreatic cells do not have reprogramming genes integrated into their genome, differentiate in the pancreatic direction in accordance with a protocol that uses only certain reagents, and are essentially incapable of differentiating in the mesodermal direction.
