The invention relates to methods of radiological noncontact measurement of neutron-physical characteristic of a substance. The technical result of the invention is higher precision of rock humidity measurement. The technical result is achieved by provision of a method wherein a charge is recorded which is generated at least in one thermal neutron detector by incident neutron flux from the beginning of a neutron pulse to the beginning of the next neutron pulse, the obtained time distribution is compared with a set of pre-calculated time distributions from the database, a time distribution is found in the database which corresponds to the recorded time distribution by the comparison criteria, rock humidity, well parameters and flushing fluid parameters are assumed to be the same as the rock humidity, well parameters and flushing fluid parameters used for the calculation of the time distribution corresponding to the recorded time distribution.
