A method for updating a biometric template and an electronic device thereof

A method for updating a template associated with an authorized user is provided. The method comprises receiving a sample associated with a user, identifying key points in the sample, identifying sub-areas in the sample, wherein the sub-areas comprise the key points, comparing the sample with the template, and, in case the sample and the template matches, identifying first sub-areas solely present in the sample. For each of the first sub-areas, determining a significance value, wherein the significance value is higher the larger the differences are to sub-areas represented in the template. If the significance value is above a first threshold, extracting first type template data from the sample and updating the template with the first type template data. If the significance value is above a second threshold, wherein the second threshold is higher than the first threshold, extracting second type template data from the sample and updating the template with the second type template data, wherein the second type template data comprises more information than the first type template data.
