The method involves selecting coding and modulation according to the comparison of a variable characteristic of a signal-to-noise ratio measured by a receiver with a threshold signal-to-noise ratio increased by a margin, where the margin is variable according to the evolution of the signal-to-noise ratio measured by the receiver. The margin is varied according to a statistical function of order higher than 1 of the variable characteristic of the signal-to-noise ratio measured by the receiver on a temporal horizon.
