A method of prestressing an aircraft assembly (1) for adjusting a prestressing connection (12b), the aircraft assembly comprising: a strut mounting joint (C1a, C1b); a main landing gear strut (15) movably coupled to the strut mounting joint so that it can move between a deployed position, for takeoff and landing, and a retracted position for flight, the main strut (15) including a first latch joint gasket (C3) arranged to be coupled to a first adjustment of the prestressing connection; a second hitch connection gasket (C2) arranged to be coupled to a second adjustment of the prestressing connection; and a first tool joint joint (C4) mechanically coupled to the main strut to define a load path between them, the method comprising: actuating a prestressing tool (20) of variable length coupled between the first tool joint joint and an anchor point that has a known spatial relationship to the aircraft assembly to cause the tool to switch between: a first extension state in which the main strut is in a predetermined position, deployed, and where the distance between the first hitch joint joint and the second hitch joint joint is a predetermined distance, and - a second extension state in which the main strut moves from the predetermined position, deployed and where the distance between the first and second joint coupling joint corresponds substantially to the prestressing distance between the first and the second connection adjustment prestressing onon
