摘要
Safety device for occluding flow through a vascular access system, the safety device comprising: a housing (42) having an inlet port (44) and an outlet port (46); a fluid path (50) in communication with the inlet port (44) and the outlet port (46); and an occlusion valve (60) interposed between the inlet port (44) and the outlet port (46), comprising a compression chamber (80) with an upper chamber (90) and a lower chamber (100), such that the chambers (90, 100) are defined by a plunger (62) slidably positioned inside the compression chamber (80), the occlusion valve (60) having a threshold pressure, in which a fluid pressure within the fluid path (50) that exceeds the threshold pressure activates the occlusion valve (60) to occlude the fluid path (50), wherein the occlusion valve (60) comprises a piston (70) fixedly coupled to the piston (62), so that the piston comprises a first end (72), a second end (74) and a central part that supports the piston (62), the first being positioned end (72) completely inside the upper chamber (90) and being sliding in the upper chamber (90), and being pos With the second end (74) sliding into the lower chamber (100), the second end (74) of the piston (70) extends from the plunger (62) through the lower chamber (100) into the interior of the fluid path (50), in which, upon activation of the occlusion valve (60), the piston (70) moves within the compression chamber (80) to an activated position such that the second end (74) of the piston occludes the fluid path (50), characterized in that a hook feature (251) that forms a terminal end portion of the piston (70), and a stepped surface (294) that forms a terminal end portion of an inner wall surface of the compression chamber, wherein, upon activation of the occlusion valve (60), the hook feature (251) and stepped surface (294) interlocks and retains the piston (276) in the activated position, thus preventing further infusion.
