A computer-implemented method for providing guidance during an aircraft approach maneuver (102), the method comprising: determining a flight path prior to approach (110) to a runway (104); calculating an activation activation altitude (112) along the pre-approach flight path (110); calculate an approach command path (202) that comprises a linear path that intersects the runway (104) at a desired ground contact location (108) and that has a slope associated with a desired altitude velocity at the desired ground contact location (108), the calculation comprising: an intersection (210) of an extrapolated aircraft flight path and runway (104), the desired ground contact location (108) relative to the intersection (210) of the extrapolated aircraft flight path and runway (104), and the desired altitude speed when contacting the ground; calculate an approach path of the aircraft (116) as the aircraft (102) transits from a location on the pre-approach flight path (110) at the approach activation altitude (112) to the approach command path ( 202) at the ground contact location (108); receiving current aircraft flight parameters associated with a current aircraft flight path; and providing flight director commands based on the current aircraft flight path, wherein the flight director commands allow the aircraft (102) to be guided along the aircraft's approach path (116) during approach maneuver.
