A method is proposed for determining a state of an electrically conductive object protected by cathodic corrosion protection, in particular a steel pipeline. An electrical test signal is measured with respect to the object (2). The state of the object is determined as a function of a time profile of a frequency spectrum of the electrical test signal (4).
