Pollutants are removed from contaminated water using electrically active metalplatesimmersed in water. An electric potential is applied across an assembly ofmetal platesinterspersed and separated in a particular arrangement. The arrangement allowsfor apositive electric potential to be applied to the first assembly of plates anda negativeelectric potential applied to the fourth assembly of metal plates. The firstset of metalplates generates ions in the water. These ions pass through the water to thesecondmetal plate electrode set. There they are converted to an electric currentthat is passedto the third electrode plate set. They generate more ions in the water, whichions travelto the fourth electrode plate set. This arrangement allows the electriccurrent to be usedtwice, improving the efficiency of the process.
