The invention relates to biotechnology. A planktonic strain of unicellular green algae Chlorella vulgaris GKO, exhibiting a thin wall, has been deposited with the Russian National Collection of Industrial Microorganisms under registration number VKPM A1-24. The strain of unicellular green algae Chlorella vulgaris VKPM A1-24 can be used to produce an edible biomass for the preparation of a beverage, a concentrate, a paste or a dry powder. The invention allows a reduction in the time required to cultivate a unicellular algal biomass.
