The present disclosure provides processes, systems, devices and techniques forassessing and predicting settling behavior of oil sands tailings. Varioussystems,processes, devices and techniques are described that allow the assessment orprediction of the settling behavior of oil sands tailings. A centrifugal testsystemcan be used to provide conditions for accelerated separation of solids fromwaterof an oil sands tailings sample, and the separation can be monitored, forexampleby acquiring images at certain points in time during the test.
