A tool is described for objectively identifying and providing assessment ofacute psychoticepisodes, such as auditory hallucinations, symptomatic of a mental conditionor disorder. Thetool can include an audio interface on a microphone-equipped networked mobilewirelesstelecommunication computing device which a patient can use to determinewhether theperceived sounds are real or hallucinatory. If the microphone fails to detectambient soundsindicating that the sounds are real, the application can provide a remotealert signal so thatappropriate parties (e.g. the patient's treatment team or emergency medicalpersonnel) cantake action.
