A method for managing ice accretion on a gas turbine engine componentcomprisesproviding an ice management system comprising a de-icing promoter applied toonly portions ofa gas turbine engine component. The method further comprises operating the icemanagementsystem in icing conditions to promote the shedding of ice accreted on the gasturbine enginecomponent on those portions where the de-icing promoter is applied.
