The present invention relates to a polymer comprising a polymer chain of general formula (I): wherein R¹ is H or methyl; R² is C_1-6 alkyl R³ is H or methyl; R⁴ is -(CH₂)_p-N⁺ (CH₃)₂-(CH₂)₃-S(O)₂O^- or -(CH₂)_p-N(CH₃)₂; p is an integer of 1 to 4; n is an integer of 15 to 30; and m is an integer wherein the ratio of n:m is from 80:20 to 20:80; provided that at least 90% of the R⁴ groups are -(CH₂)_P-N⁺ (CH₃)₂-(CH₂)₃-S(O)₂O^- The invention also relates to nanoparticles formed from the polymers and to pharmaceutical compositions comprising an active agent encapsulated in the nanoparticles.
