Method for controlling a buffer storage / load sequencing system, receiving non-sequenced loads and comprising a buffer storage unit (with input levels and at least one recirculation level) and input and output elevators . A pilot unit iteratively controls the entry elevator. At each iteration (even if charge (s) to be recirculated in the system): selection of a charge at the output of an input conveyor or the recirculation level; if a selection of one of the entry levels is successful, generation of a mission to transfer the selected charge to the selected level, otherwise selection from the entry levels of a level to be recirculated and assignment of the status to be recirculated to the (x) charge (s) on it (without generating a transfer mission).
