Provided are a cross-platform communication system for multiple units, and further provided are a cross-platform passenger information communication system and method for multiple units based on the communication system. The communication system comprises a first multiple units platform and a second multiple units platform that use different communication buses, wherein a reconnection gateway is provided in a head car and/or tail car of the first multiple units platform and/or the second multiple units platform, the reconnection gateway communicates with a system controller of the two multiple units platforms, and the system controller of the multiple units platform provided with the reconnection gateway is internally provided with a protocol conversion unit for converting data between different communication buses. In the communication method for the cross-platform passenger information system for multiple units, data transfer between the two cars is conducted through the reconnection gateway, and the conversion between two different data formats is conducted through the protocol converter. The system and method provided in the present application can be applied to interconnection and intercommunication between different technology platforms, thereby realizing flexible grouping between multiple units, and improving the utilization rate of the multiple units.
