The invention relates to a method for monitoring transport securing means which operate by means of tensioning elements (5), preferably tensioning straps, on a transport vehicle (1), at least two of the tensioning elements (5) being provided with at least one respective monitoring unit (10) secured thereto. The aim of the invention is to allow a reliable monitoring of the effectiveness of all tensioning elements (5) being used even after the termination of the actual load securing measures. This is achieved in that the monitoring unit (10) comprises a sensor and a transmission unit, wherein the sensor detects an actual value which represents the tensile force in the tensioning element (5), and the transmission unit (12) wirelessly transmits status signals to a control unit (20) provided on the same transport vehicle (1). The transmitted status signals comprise at least the actual value together with a target value previously stored in the monitoring unit (10) or a differential value derived from the actual value and the target value previously stored in the monitoring unit (10).
