This invention relates to methods for locating underwater objects. According to the invention, at least three hydroacoustic buoys are used, three slant ranges are determined on the basis of a signal propagation period and, on the basis of at least three distances obtained from reference points of the hydroacoustic buoys with known coordinates to a point in question – a responder beacon of an underwater object - the coordinates of the underwater object are determined. The technical result which can be achieved consists in increasing the accuracy of positioning underwater objects and also in allowing positioning while exchanging information when working with a large number of tracked underwater objects, more particularly when allowing operation of what are referred to as underwater wireless sensor networks.
