The present disclosure provides a metal-silicon carbide-based composite material which includes: a porous silicon carbide-based body constituted from a plurality of silicon carbide particles; a complexed part containing a metal impregnated in the porous silicon carbide-based body; and a metal. Said composite material has a first surface layer and a second surface layer that cover the main surfaces of the complexed part. The metal includes at least one type selected from the group consisting of aluminum and magnesium. The content of particles having diameters of 300 µm or more in the plurality of silicon carbide particles is 5 vol.% or less.
