Provided are: a screening method for an anti-obesity substance, the method including selecting a substance capable of increasing the expression of the Pgc-1α gene and the Mipep gene; and a kit for screening that is used in this screening method. During screening, the level of Pgc-1α gene and Mipep gene expression may be determined, and the level of reporter gene expression may be determined by reporter assay.
