The objective of the present invention is to achieve low cost and high durability in a toy system in which it is possible to determine a status of a separate toy. The toy system includes a casing, a magnetic sensor which is provided in the casing and which detects the orientation and magnitude of a magnetic field, and a determining unit. The determining unit determines that any of a plurality of separate toys having magnetic field generating means attached thereto in such a way as to generate magnetic fields that have mutually different orientations in a standard attitude, has approached the magnetic sensor, and determines which of the plurality of separate toys has approached the magnetic sensor, on the basis of an output from the magnetic sensor, or determines, on the basis of the output from the magnetic sensor, that a separate toy, which is separate from the casing and which has a magnetic field generating means for generating a magnetic field attached thereto, has come into contact with or has approached the casing.
