BIO-ELECTROCHEMICAL REACTOR COMPRISING A BIOANODE AND AN ABIOTIC ANODE, AND USE THEREOF FOR MICROBIAL ELECTROSYNTHESIS

Bio-electrochemical reactor (1) comprising at least one bio-anode (4) and at least one bio-cathode (3) which are immersed in an electrolyte containing micro-organisms in an anode compartment (14), referred to as the first compartment, and in a cathode compartment (13), respectively, the anode and cathode compartments being separated by at least one ion exchange membrane, the first anode compartment (14) comprising a port (9) for introducing organic carbon-containing substrate, a first potential difference (24) being applied, during operation, between the bio-anode (4) and the bio-cathode (3). The reactor comprises a second anode compartment (15) containing an electrolyte which is devoid of electro-active micro-organisms and in which an abiotic anode (5) is immersed, a second potential difference (25) being able to be applied, during operation, between the abiotic anode and the bio-cathode. Use for microbial electrosynthesis from bio-waste.
