A method of establishing a connection to secondary node in a wireless communication network includes receiving a radio resource control (RRC) message from a master node for establishing the connection to the secondary node. The RRC message includes an indication of an integrity protection algorithm for use with a radio bearer terminated at the secondary node. The method further includes establishing the connection with the secondary node, and applying integrity protection to communications over the radio bearer using the integrity protection algorithm indicated in the RRC message. At least one of the master node and the secondary node is an E-UTRA node.
