Provided are: a pretreatment solution; an ink set; an image-recording substrate; a method for producing the image-recording substrate; an image-recording medium; and an image-recording method, whereby the adhesion of images to non-permeable substrates can be improved. The pretreatment solution is used for pretreatment of a non-permeable substrate, said pretreatment being performed before image recording is performed on the non-permeable substrate, and contains a coagulant, an aqueous medium, and a resin, wherein the resin contains at least one selected from the group consisting of structural unit (1), structural unit (2), and structural unit (3), and has a glass transition temperature of at least -40°C and below 100°C. In the formula, R² represents a hydrogen atom or a C1-4 alkyl group, A² represents -NH- or -N(L⁴-Y⁴)-, L² and L⁴ each represent a divalent group or a single bond, L³ represents a divalent group, Y² and Y⁴ each represent a monovalent group such as an alkyl group, and Y³ represents a monovalent group such as -OH.
