The mechanical drive system includes a vertical drive unit and a horizontal drive unit. The vertical drive unit includes a vertical motor for driving a lead screw to put an upper friction partner in downward motion, while the horizontal drive unit includes a reciprocating motor for driving a lower friction partner to slide back and forth. The hydraulic system includes an oil injection pump, a scavenge pump and an oil reservoir. The measurement and control system includes an industrial personal computer (IPC), a display screen, transducers, and a plurality of controllers. The sliding friction and wear tester is characterized by simple operation, full automatic testing, adjustable and controllable parameters, on-line load compensation during testing, digital display of testing process and results, compact design structure, and support for tests on specimens of various sizes and shapes.
