Pharmaceutical compositions are described herein, the compositions consisting essentially of anhydrous suspensions of a therapeutically effective quantity of a pharmaceutically acceptable reducing agent capable of undergoing thiol-disulfide exchange with cystine to form a mixed disulfide (such as tiopronin). In some embodiments, the suspension also contains one or more urine alkanizing agent(s). Methods for fabricating the compositions and using them are also described.
