A water treatment method employing pollutant screening comprises: acquiring a sample to be tested from a water sample under test; performing two-dimensional gas chromatography analysis to obtain an intermediate analyte, wherein part of the intermediate analyte is subjected to EI ion source bombardment to generate ions, and subjected to mass spectrometry analysis to acquire a first spectrogram, and the rest is subjected to ECD detection to acquire a second spectrogram; and performing screening on the first spectrogram by means of a mass spectrometry difference technique, comparing the first spectrogram with the second spectrogram, and if a valid signal indicating iodinated organic pollutants or organic nitrile pollutants is present in a screening result, and the valid signal is also present in the second spectrogram, determining that the iodinated organic pollutants or organic nitrile pollutants are present. The method can be used to quickly and easily perform reliable screening for iodinated organic pollutants or organic nitrile pollutants, and to perform effective treatment on the identified pollutants, thereby achieving targeted removal of organic pollutants.
