Provided is a waveguide-based image providing apparatus in which an eye-box can be effectively formed in the vertical direction and the vertical angle of view can be expanded without a reduction in brightness due to a two-dimensional exit pupil expansion technology. An image providing apparatus according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises: an in-coupler which allows an image output from an image source to flow into a waveguide, and in which a horizontal exit pupil is formed; the waveguide for providing a path through which the image that has flowed in through the in-coupler is transmitted; an optical device for collecting the image that vertically spreads in the waveguide; and an out-coupler array for outputting the image transmitted through the waveguide. Consequently, the optical efficiency of the overall system increases, thus allowing the vertical eye-box to be effectively formed and the angle of view to be expanded without a reduction in brightness due to two-dimensional exit pupil expanding technology.
