A non-aqueous electrolyte for a lithium-ion battery, and a lithium-ion battery comprising said non-aqueous electrolyte, the electrolyte comprising: a solvent, lithium salt and, as shown in structural formula I, an unsaturated phosphite ester compound: (I), wherein R₁ comprises an alkenyl having between 2 and 5 carbon atoms or an alkynyl having between 2 and 5 carbon atoms, R2 comprises a fluoroalkyl or cyano having between 1 and 4 carbon atoms, and R₃ comprises an alkyl having between 1 and 4 carbon atoms, an aryl having between 6 and 10 carbon atoms, an alkenyl having between 2 and 5 carbon atoms, an alkynyl having between 2 and 5 carbon atoms, or a fluoroalkyl or cyano having between 1 and 5 carbon atoms. Using an unsaturated phosphite ester additive in a lithium-ion battery electrolyte causes the problem of increased electrolyte chrominance, whereas no discoloration occurs in the process of storing the above lithium-ion battery non-aqueous electrolyte.
