An aspect of the present invention may provide a battery module that enables intuitive identification of a swelling amount of battery cells received in a module housing, the battery module comprising: a cell pressing plate received in the module housing and disposed to face at least one side among opposite lengthwise sides of a cell laminate formed by laminating the battery cells; and a swelling gauge provided to protrude from the surface of the cell pressing plate, wherein when the battery cells are swelling, the swelling gauge is pushed to the outside of the module housing through a gauge hole formed through the module housing, so that the swelling amount of the battery cells can be identified by measuring the length by which the swelling gauge has protruded out of the module housing.
