The present invention relates to a receiver for a VHF data exchange system (VDES) having a function of preventing over-input signal of a coast base station, and a control method thereof. More particularly, a receiver for a VDES for maritime communication, which communicates with a coastal base station and ships in the sea by time division multiple access (TDMA) method, controls a signal detected during a slot time allocated for an over-input signal due to increase in the intensity of the received signal to protect the receiver for the VDES and to prevent saturation of the received signal when receiving the signal from a ship located in a distance.
