According to the present invention, a method for measuring the concentration of sulfate reducing bacteria (SRB) is provided. The method produces a standard growth medium in the test vial group, adds ferrous chloride tetrahydrate (FCTH) to each test vial, adds the sample portion to the first of the test vial groups, and follows in the test group. Serially diluting the sample portion by injecting the vial-derived fluid sequentially into the vial and incubating the test vial group, and blackening of the fluid in the incubated test vial indicates the presence of a threshold of SRB.
