The present invention provides a method for treating flue gas having one or more components. The method includes passing the solution through both magnetic and electric fields to form an activated solution. The method also includes contacting the activated solution with the flue gas such that one or more components of the flue gas are at least partially absorbed by the activated solution to form a residual solution.
