Bendable laminated articles comprising a structured island layer and methods of making the same

The laminated glass article includes a glass layer and a structured layer disposed on the inner surface of the glass layer. The structured layer comprises a plurality of dispersed island structures configured to enhance the glass layer's puncture or impact resistance while preserving the flexibility of the glass layer due to their dispersed properties. In some embodiments, the laminated glass article may include a refractive index matching layer disposed between the plurality of island structures, wherein a difference between the refractive index of the refractive index matching layer and the refractive index of the structured layer is 0.05 or less. In some embodiments, the laminated glass article may define all or part of a cover substrate for a user product.
