The present invention relates to an apparatus for receiving a disaster broadcast through the FM radio data broadcasting of a smartphone and a method thereof. The apparatus allows a user to quickly respond to various disaster situations regardless of communication suspension due to mobile communication network loss in a disaster situation and communication delay due to limitation of concurrent users and a communication bandwidth, wherein the communication delay which occurs in using a radio application, by performing alerting of the disaster broadcast with vibration, sound, flash, etc. and after the alerting, receiving the disaster broadcast through FM radio data broadcasting if specific code information for a disaster is received through an FM broadcast data channel even when a smartphone user is not listening to the FM radio.
