The present invention relates to a cosmetic composition comprising an extract of Sargassum muticum as an effective component. According to the present invention, by including the extract of Sargassum muticum as an effective component, the cosmetic composition enables procollagen type I, which is a collagen precursor, to be synthesized in a greater amount to enable biosynthesis of collagen in the skin, thus more efficiently reducing skin wrinkles caused by heat due to sunlight in the infrared region. Also, according to the present invention, the cosmetic composition includes Sargassum muticum, whose source material is easy to acquire, as an effective component, and thus, when applied as products such as cosmetics, can reduce the costs including the production costs.
