The present invention relates to a device for optimizing inverse tone mapping (ITM) based on a single image, capable of reconfiguring a high quality high dynamic range (HDR) image by using a low dynamic range (LDR) image, a method thereof, and a recording medium for executing the same. According to the present invention, the method comprises the following steps of: inputting the LDR image to an ITM operator; inputting a result value of the ITM operator to a tone mapping (TP) operator; comparing a result value of the TM operator with a threshold for reading HDR luminance; and selecting the smaller result value of the TM operator than the threshold as the HDR image.
