The present invention relates to a channel estimation apparatus and method based on subcarrier packing using multiple reception antennas for improving the performance of a packet error rate (PER) of an 802.11p physical layer in a high-speed mobile communication environment based on a wave (WAVE). The channel estimation apparatus of the present invention is equipped with an estimator for estimating a channel value of a specific OFDM symbol of transmission data received by a plurality of reception antennas using a channel value of a previous OFDM symbol. In addition, a reliability test unit for performing a reliability test on a channel value of the OFDM symbol estimated by the estimation unit and a subcarrier packing unit for MRC combining channel values according to the reliability test result are provided. The subcarrier packing unit performs a reliability test using a first packing unit that restores a data pilot by performing MRC combining channel values of a reliable OFDM symbol for each reception antenna according to a result of the reliability test, and the restored data pilot. It has a second packing unit to recover transmission data by MRC combining all channel values of an OFDM symbol that has not passed. According to the present invention, the channel estimation accuracy and packet reception rate are improved compared to the existing channel estimation methods, and there is an advantage of overcoming the performance degradation of the packet error rate in the time-varying channel generated when the vehicle moves at high speed. .
