Administering to a mammalian subject suffering from cancer a therapeutically effective amount of a platinum-based anticancer agent, and prior to, concurrently with, or after administration of the platinum-based anticancer agent, to the subject a therapeutically effective amount of a pentaaza macro corresponding to formula I A method of treating cancer in a mammalian subject suffering from cancer, consisting essentially of increasing the response of the cancer to a platinum-based anticancer agent by administering a cyclic ring complex.
