3 Customizing Third-Party Content Using Beacons on Online Social Networks

In one embodiment, the method includes transmitting session information between the first user of the online social network and the third party content provider to the online social network. The session information includes information in which the wireless communication session refers to a wireless communication session established between the first client system of the first user and the beacon of the third party content provider. The beacon is in physical proximity to the first client system upon establishment of the wireless communication session, and the wireless communication session allows the online social network to transmit the social networking information of the first user to the beacon. In response to sending the session information, the first set of social networking information of the first user is received from the online social network via a beacon. The first set of social networking information allows third party content providers to send personalized third party content via beacons for display at the first client system.
