Disclosed are a method for improving system throughput in a slotted carrier sense multiple access with collision avoidance (CSMA/CA) network, and an apparatus thereof. According to the present invention, a personal area network (PAN) coordinator estimates the number of terminals operating in the k^th (k is a natural number of one or more) superframe by observing a channel state, calculates a backoff period to be used in the (k+1)^th superframe based on the estimated number of terminals, and transmits the calculated backoff period in a beacon frame to the connected terminals.
