The disclosed embodiment includes a method (system and non-transitory computer readable medium) for generating 3D model data of a virtual 3D model based on a plurality of 2D cross-sectional images of a 3D object. The 3D model of the 3D object is generated based on the plurality of virtual hexahedral models. A plurality of hexahedral models are generated based on each pixel of the 2D cross-sectional image of the 3D object. By creating a 3D model of an object comprising a plurality of hexahedral models, objects in other objects can be represented accurately. In addition, since the 3D model may have a closed shape, 3D printing of the 3D model may be performed successfully.
