Disclosed is a text-to-speech device capable of applying a selective speech model and a method of operating the same. The present invention converts and outputs the sentence into speech based on the voice model of the voice corresponding to the category according to the category according to the subject of the sentence input by the user, thereby expressing the emotion inherent in the sentence more realistically.
