The robot system of the present invention has a plurality of user selectable operating modes. In order to select one of the above operating modes, the user performs a discriminating action of identifying a desired operating mode from among a plurality of user selectable operating modes in a unique manner. The method performed by the processor of the robotic system identifies the distinct action and places the robotic system in a user-selected operating mode.
