Disclosed is a method for quantitative monitoring of bacterial endospores in the aqueous medium of paper and cardboard factories. Method includes extraction of two water samples of industrial water medium; in the first sample the vegetative forms of bacteria are destroyed by heating of not less than 60 °C, adding an intercalating agent, incubating in dark for 1–30 minutes, determining endospore level using a quantitative polymerase chain reaction. Level of endospores is compared from the first sample with the number of vegetative bacterial cells in the second sample.
