FIELD: measurement technology.;SUBSTANCE: invention relates to investigation of contamination of surface of linear structures and is intended, in particular, for investigation of contaminated territory on surface of railway track section. Method of collecting samples for investigating a contaminated section of a railway track, comprising marking a minor axis Y and a major axis X of semi-ellipses located across and along a railway track, respectively, determining the beginning and extension of the local contamination section, designation of points for sampling, location of which is determined using the formulas: Al=ɭ∙(n-0.5)/2, m, A2.5=0.75∙ɭ∙n/2, m, A3.4=0.95∙ɭ∙n/2, m, where Al – distances from small axis of semi-ellipses (Y) to sampling points located on major axis of semi-ellipses (X); A2.5 and A3.4 – distances laid along major axis of semi-ellipses (X); ɭ is half the length of the Y axis within the semi-ellipses, m; n is semi-ellipse number starting from Y axis, extraction of point samples and composition of the combined sample, characterized by that for the section with two railway tracks is selected and the major axis X of semi-ellipses is located in the middle between two railway tracks, at that, additionally sampling of surface waste water is carried out, and when determining location of sampling points, the specified coefficients are used – 0.75 and 0.95.;EFFECT: reduction of time and expansion of research objects and improvement of research quality.;1 cl, 5 tbl, 1 dwg
