Method for determining the hydraulic permeability of fine-grained and mixed-grained soils with low permeability with the following steps: a) Cyclic pressurization of a volume of soil with a pressure, the frequency of the pressurization being chosen such that the duration of a load cycle is a multiple of the time that is a multiple of the time the contaminated soil volume required for 95-98% consolidation under static pressure of the same size; b) measuring the pore water pressure created during the pressurization; c) determining the temporal phase offset between the applied pressure and the measured pore water pressure; d) continuing the measurements until a constant phase offset occurs within the scope of the measuring accuracy, the constant phase offset being a function of the hydraulic permeability of the soil sample; e) comparing the measured phase offset or a hydraulic permeability derived therefrom with e empirically, analytically or numerically determined reference values.
