An electrical household appliance with a measuring device for carrying out electrical measurements on a measurement object and a control unit for operating control of the household device is disclosed as a function of the measurement results obtained from the measuring device. The measuring device comprises a generator for generating an electrical excitation signal of variable signal frequency to be applied to the measurement object. The generator generates the excitation signal by sampling an in particular at least approximately sinusoidal reference signal with a sampling frequency below twice the signal frequency of the reference signal and varies the sampling frequency to vary the signal frequency of the excitation signal.
