The invention relates to a soot point lamp (R) and to a method for the qualitative and quantitative standardization of fuels and fuel components with regard to their soot formation tendency, which are burnt to produce a flame (FL). It is provided that the soot point lamp (R) comprises at least one sensor arrangement (10 20, 30), by means of which a flame height (zFL-OR) is set by means of the flame (FL) generated in the soot point lamp (R) to determine a quantitative soot point (L) and / or quantitatively a soot particle intensity a predetermined flame height (zFL-MR) of the flame (FL) generated in the soot point lamp (R) is determined.
